The Year to Receive

The Year to Receive

Many years ago, I sat on a worn couch in a therapist's office, a young mom with an empty cup. I was doing all the things, showing up for everyone, checking the boxes of what a "good mother" and "good woman" should be. And then my therapist said something that shifted everything:

"Let this be the year to receive."

I didn’t fully understand it at first. Receive? I was too busy giving. Giving time. Giving energy. Giving up sleep, dreams, and sometimes, my own voice.

But I knew she was right. And that year, I made it my quiet mission to learn how to receive.

I practiced receiving compliments without brushing them off or shrinking. I let someone else carry the groceries. I said yes when a friend invited me to coffee. I allowed space for my needs, my rest, my joy.

It wasn’t easy. For many women, especially mothers, receiving can feel unnatural, even selfish. We're taught to pour out endlessly, to keep smiling even as we crumble inside. But that kind of giving, without balance, leads to exhaustion, bitterness, and burnout.

As this year comes to a close and a new one stretches open before us, I want to offer you the same invitation:

Let this be the year to receive.

Receive rest without guilt.
Receive love without suspicion.
Receive help without apology.
Receive joy without waiting for the other shoe to drop.

You are worthy of kindness. You are allowed to need and to be met in that need. You are allowed to lean back and let the world hold you, even just a little.

This isn’t about stopping your giving heart. No, that is sacred. But imagine how much richer your giving becomes when it flows from overflow, not depletion.

Receiving is not a weakness. It is wisdom. It is a partnership with life. It is an open door to abundance, connection, and wholeness.

There is deep healing through receiving. It reminds us that we are not alone and that our worth is not tied to what we do, but simply to who we are.

So, beautiful soul, as you step into the new year, may your hands be open not just to give, but to receive.

Receive it all. You deserve it.

If this message stirred something in you, and you're not sure where to begin, you're not alone.
