The Unmothered Circle

You learned to survive without being mothered. Now it's time to be cared for.

Individual therapy can take you far. Group psychotherapy offers something different: the experience of being understood by women who recognize the impact of growing up without consistent emotional mothering. You can speak honestly here without having to explain every part of the wound from the beginning.

You may recognize yourself here

She was there.
But she was never really there.

You grew up feeling invisible in your own home, even in moments when you were loved. You were never truly seen.

You learned early to manage your emotions alone. To not need too much. To be the one who holds it together so others do not have to.

You have a persistent sense of not being enough, in your relationships, your parenting, your work, even when the evidence says otherwise.

You find intimacy difficult. Being truly known by someone feels dangerous even when you desperately want it.

You have done work on yourself, read the books, maybe even done therapy, and you understand the wound intellectually. But something in you has not yet shifted at the level you know it needs to.

You are tired of carrying this quietly. You are ready to be in a room where you do not have to explain yourself from the beginning.

If you recognize yourself here, The Unmothered Circle may be a meaningful next step to explore.

What the Circle is

More than a support group.
More than a lecture.
An in-person psychotherapy group for meaningful change.

The Unmothered Circle is an in-person psychotherapy group led by Amelia Mora Mars, LMFT #102384. It meets weekly for eight weeks at her Westlake Village therapy office.

The group is intentionally small, a maximum of six women per cohort, so that every person in the room has space to be known, not just heard. This is not a place to sit quietly in the back. It is a place to do the work alongside women who understand it from the inside.

The group process itself can become part of the healing. Being heard, emotionally understood, and met with care by other women creates an opportunity to practice safer connection while working through patterns that began much earlier in life.

What we work on together

Understanding how your mother's emotional unavailability shaped the way you see yourself and move through the world

Tracing the pattern back through three generations to understand where it actually began

Grieving what you did not receive without being consumed by it

Learning to stay present in hard emotional moments instead of shutting down or flooding

Rebuilding trust in your own instincts, emotions, and sense of self

Being witnessed by women who understand, and letting that witnessing begin to repair what was broken

Who this is for and who it is not

This group works because
everyone in it is ready.

The Unmothered Circle is a carefully held space. Its power comes from the fact that every woman who enters it is stable enough to show up for others, not just herself. This is not a crisis group. It is a healing group.

This is for you if

You are emotionally stable and functional in your daily life even when things are hard

You have some awareness of the mother wound and its impact on your life

You are ready to hold space for others, not just receive it yourself

You can commit to showing up consistently for eight weeks

You are open to being seen and challenged, not just validated

This is not the right fit if

You are currently in active crisis or acute emotional distress

You need more intensive individual support before you are ready for group work

You are not yet able to be present for others in the room

Your schedule does not allow for consistent weekly attendance

You are looking for a place to vent rather than a place to grow

If you are not sure whether this is the right fit, you may still join the interest list. Before enrollment, Amelia will speak with you about clinical fit and readiness. If individual therapy is a better first step, she will tell you honestly and can often help connect you with appropriate support.

Amelia Mora Mars, LMFT

Amelia is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in Westlake Village, California. She specializes in generational healing, the mother wound, and faith-informed therapy for women.

She is also a daughter who was raised by an emotionally unavailable mother. She knows this wound from the inside. She spent years carrying it quietly, learning to stay small, protecting everyone around her while believing something in her must be broken.

She is also a mother of ten and a woman who did the work. She brings both her clinical training and lived experience into every group she facilitates, creating a space where women can bring the parts of their stories they have often carried quietly.

Who is this group designed for?

The group is designed for adult women who were raised by emotionally unavailable mothers and want to understand how those early experiences continue to affect self-trust, boundaries, emotional connection, and relationships.

Where does the group meet, and when is the next cohort?

The closed eight-week group meets in person at 2660 Townsgate Road, Suite 450, Westlake Village, California 91361. The next cohort is forming now, and dates and meeting times will be selected based on participant availability. Join the interest list to receive scheduling updates.

What does the group cost?

The fee is $70 per week for eight weeks and is billed through Amelia's client portal. HSA and FSA payments are accepted. Because this is a closed cohort, weekly sessions are billed whether or not you attend.

Does joining the interest list guarantee enrollment?

No. Expressing interest does not require you to enroll or guarantee placement. Before the group begins, Amelia screens prospective participants for clinical fit and group readiness. If the group is not the best level of support right now, she will discuss other options with you when possible.

You were not broken
by what happened.
You were shaped by it.

And what was shaped can be reshaped. That is what the Circle is for. If you have questions before joining the interest list, Amelia is happy to talk.
